Several things...
Jan. 6th, 2007 03:43 pmI saw Children of Men last night. Amazing, amazing movie, one that will disturb and tilt your brain and stay with you for a long time. Clive Owen is fabulous and understated, and I LOVE Michael Caine. The cinematography is gorgeous, and Alfonso Cuaron does these unbelievably long, complex, blood-spattered single takes that have no dialogue. In a way, I think it's a Blade Runner for the 21st century in the sense that it's a bleak, futuristic story making commentaries on the present. It's been awhile since I've seen a movie that unsettled me in a good, I've-just-seen-a-fantastic-movie sorta way. So everyone go see it and then come back and discuss with me. :D

While waiting for the movie to start, I told Mr. Foxx that I was considering writing a Firefly/BSG crossover fic where Serenity finds Galactica. Mr. Foxx then proceeded to tell me of his intense loathing for all things of a crossover nature ("I swear I get hives when I see those Star Trek/Star Wars novels"); according to Mr. Foxx, most universes, especially sci-fi ones (i.e. BSG, SGA, Star Trek, etc.), exist unto themselves and should not be infiltrated by other 'verses. He's okay with, say, Oz/L&O crossovers and comic crossovers, because "those exist in the same world."
Yes, I say, but haven't you ever wondered about how Character A from Show A would react to Show B and Character B? No, never, he said.
Evidently, I'm married to a man with no crossover desires whatsoever.
