This is going to be rushed because I have tons of crap to do and I'm due in a ridiculouslyboringpointless meeting in a bit, but this has been floating around in my head all morning and I'd like to babble at you.
So
airgiodslv wrote this amazing fic where Jon is a vampire, only that's completely not the point of the story at all--the point is that she takes relationships and flushes them out into real things that feel true and achy and lovely. Only the main relationship of the story is Jon/Bill, and I'll be honest, I wouldn't have read that pairing from very many authors. (I'm not even going to go into my flailing incoherent love for the way she writes all of TAI.)
Most of you know my OTP (and if not, um? I'm seriously not that subtle), and I was telling
shleemeri and
adellyna last night (before I'd finished reading Jen's fic) that it kind of hurts my soul whenever Jon and Spencer break up in fic for other people. I love all combos of Panic, ALL OF THEM, but when it's Jon leaving Spencer for Ryan, or Spencer breaking up with Jon for Brendon, I seriously cry. YES, I'M A LITTLE TOO INVESTED, WOT. Like Mandi told me, I'd rather just have them exist platonically in the background than be together at all. PLEASE DO NOT THINK ME A CRAZY SHIPPER GIRL. It's just that I've never been in a fandom where I consistently read about my OTP being split into different pairings.
BUT THIS BRINGS ME TO MY POINT, which is: good writing can change your mind. Not to say I now ship Jon/Bill to the nth degree or anything, but
aurgiodslv's fic made me think about it and the various other pairings formed throughout the course of her fic. I watched the new edition of TAI TV today and suddenly was watching Bill and forming different scenarios in my head of Jon calling him after the new episode shows up on YouTube to tell him how pretty he is while Spencer pouts (jokingly) in the background. I LOVE THAT FANDOM/BANDOM CAN MAKE ME THINK OUTSIDE MY OTP BOX. Not mention I now have this new-and-improved love for Bill Beckett.
Uhhh, sorry if I've embarrassed Jen by babbling about her fic, LOL. Seriously, though. Go read it. Jon-as-a-vampire is just the bestest thing ever. :D
