My life, so hard
My mother and brother just got in this evening from their week-long vacation in Vegas. I just learned that their hotel? Was behind the Hard Rock Hotel. Like I told
shleemeri, I'm waiting for my mom to show me pictures she took on the strip, and then say, "Oh! And here's this lovely young man who took our picture," and it's, like, Brendon Urie or something. The universe haaaaaaates me.
On a separate note, the fic that's out right now in this fandom is killing me. Dear fandom, please to not be posting long, amazing AUs all at once, I seriously have to work eight hours a day.
skoosiepants finally posted the sequel to Supersaturation (as well as another companion fic, OMFG *flails like a flaily thing*),
sweetrecovery finally posted her journalism AU, and there are Christmas exchange fics coming out of my ears. *rolls around in fic*
On another sort-of separate note, I've been seeing people talk about their "unpopular" fannish opinions, which has been fascinating to me. What's been on my mind lately is the music, namely why certain songs are popular and others aren't. And probably my biggest "unpopular" opinion is my ambiguity toward Gym Class Heroes. I'll just put it out there: I'm not a Travie fan. He's funny, sure, and Gabe loves him, but their music is really the least enjoyable for me out of all the bandom groups. Plus, I sort of find Travis to be a skeevy drunk a lot of times, just from the pictures/videos I've seen. *hands* Correct me if I'm wrong, by all means! But please, don't try to convince me that "Cupid's Chokehold" is a good song, because every time I hear it on the radio, I want to punch something. However, I love "Clothes Off" (PStump has a lot to do with that) and "The Queen and I" is good, but. Idk, I know everyone says they're amazing live, so maybe seeing them in concert one day will change my mind.
Let me say that my favorite songs in general are random. I don't really have a rhyme or reason for what I love; a line, a bridge, an emotion evoked--anything can set a song off for me. I know a lot of people say "Build God" is their favorite Panic song, but honestly? It's my least favorite, probably even after "I Write Sins". I hate the last minute of that song, even though I'll admit that the first verse is insanely fun to sing. But then, I LOVE "I Constantly Thank God", if for no other reason than the lyrics practically roll of your tongue (and yes, I got an earful from
adellyna on RyRo's misuse of "for god's sake", but I'll still let that slide), and Spencer's drumming in the opening measures makes me want to die. I also adore "There's a Good Reason" and "But It's Better If You Do" to the point of distraction, but those are, for the most part, universally liked songs. I very rarely see "I Constantly Thank God" on anyone's top five list.
Here's my unpopular thought on favorite FOB songs: I do not like "Golden". And it took me many, many listens to finally appreciate "Hum Hallelujah", and even now it's still nowhere near the levels of love I have for "Bang the Doldrums" or "G.I.N.A.S.F.S." (strictly talking IOH here). There, I said it. Yes, "Hum Hallelujah" is Pete's autobiography and it's a lovely song, but I just really prefer to listen to Patrick tell me about how he's walking around the house in my shoes. Now, as far as TTTYG and FUTCT is concerned, I'm pretty mainstream, I think. "Grand Theft Autumn" owns my soul, and "Sugar We're Goin' Down" will always, ALWAYS be the song that made me flail and want to listen to every damn thing these boys had ever produced. I still, to this day, could listen to that song on repeat and never, ever get tired of it.
My only sadface with MCR is that no one talks about "Sleep" enough. You guys, this fucking song, OMG. The first time I heard it, I literally had goosebumps and couldn't breathe. It's such an amazing song, and I've seriously been pondering over a gigantic meta post on how this song blends themes on being paralyzed by fear and apathy in a post-911 America with Gerard's thoughts on death and ugh. GAH. I LOVE THIS SONG SO MUCH. Yes, ALL of The Black Parade is jaw-droppingly awesome, but "Sleep" is, in my opinion, the darkest song on the whole album. THE DARKEST SONG ON AN ALBUM ALL ABOUT DEATH, C'MON. META THAT SHIT, PEOPLE.
In conclusion, I've decided that my life will not be complete if I do not hear Gabe Saporta sing "You Can't Be Missed If You Never Go Away" live in my face. It just won't. The end.
