I LOVE this icon, why did I not have it earlier?!

[livejournal.com profile] maverick4oz has written a Homicide/Wanted crossover with Meloni's Dennis and Lee's Eddie. I haven't watched either and yet I want to reeeeeead it so bad. And I *still* have not read [livejournal.com profile] rhymephile's Oz/Desperate Housewives fic, dammit.

This came out of a recent post [livejournal.com profile] shleemeri made last night about Gryffindors and Ravenclaws. I was too fascinated to completely leave it alone, LOL. I'd love to see people discuss this.

[Poll #742935]

"Rescue Me" marathon continues today because I am dying to get to the Sully eps, hee. I'm also resisting the urge to post about how Tommy Gavin and Elliot Stabler need to have a brooding-guilt-ridden-Catholic-boys-who-love-their-kids face-off, LMAO. Because yes, everything eventually comes back to Oz and Meloni!sex. XD

They are so both awesome, awesome Slytherins. Though I guess, considering that Oz is a different playing field than normal, Beecher might be a Ravenclaw and Keller would be a Gryffindor, but this is all kind of making my head hurt. Especially imagining what Oz residents would get up to with a wand.

i always love doing this kind of shit

[identity profile] gabrita.livejournal.com 2006-06-06 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree 100% that Keller is Slytherin all over but I don't think Beecher qualifies as a Slytherin although he's acted Slytherinlike when pushed too far. I would say Beecher is a Gryffindor-Ravenclaw hybrid with the ability to act very deliciously Slytherin when the time calls for it. And now I suddenly want to rewatch all of Oz... been a while.

Especially imagining what Oz residents would get up to with a wand.
Omg these guys don't do self-control at all! The possibilities...

I'll TOTALLY buy that.

[identity profile] foxxcub.livejournal.com 2006-06-07 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
My thinking is that in the real world they are Slytherin, but in Oz that's...pretty much everyone.

Especially imagining what Oz residents would get up to with a wand.

If you wrote that, I'd have your babies.

Wait until you see the "Wanted" epi's, first it had both Lee and Gary Cole..and then Lee's character..he was just nuts, total attitude, and funny as all hell.

[identity profile] foxxcub.livejournal.com 2006-06-07 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
LOL, I so don't need to be downloading anymore TV shit to my hard drive. ;)

[identity profile] rileyc.livejournal.com 2006-06-06 03:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Nah, you can read Mav's fic; you will love Dennis and Eddie. The only downside is you will want to see them in action.

I haven't read rhyme's fic yet either, partly because of missing most of Lee's DH episodes, and also a suspicion it may be on the dark side and I don't want to risk scaring off the muses. Although after yesterday, things are looking pretty good for the writing troubles to be over, so it should be safe to check out more fic now.

Elliot vs. Tommy: Physically, Elliot would kick his ass, but Tommy trumps him for being totally fucked up. At least for now; lord knows what S8 of SVU will bring.

Can't help with the poll as I am mostly Harry Potter ignorant.

Man, I'd love to see Tommy vs. Elliot! What a smack down.

Also, you could always watch the video of Lee's appearance on DH at Diane's site. It was short and sweet, as I told [livejournal.com profile] foxxcub, I just made up a past for Peter.

You are right about the slightly darker tone to my fic. I wrote canon Keller, pre-Oz, and mention the events of the homosexual murders. But there's no blood, if that helps, LOL!

[identity profile] rileyc.livejournal.com 2006-06-07 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
From what I gathered, it didn't sound like there was a lot of development given to Peter, so there should be plenty of room to play. And it should be safe for me to venture on out into the fic pool now.

Yay, that makes me happy! I have this Elliot/Toby plot bunny thingy I'm working on, so I might be bugging you soon, LOL.

Too true, although at this rate can we only hope for more lame Catholic guilt stuff?

[identity profile] rileyc.livejournal.com 2006-06-07 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
Yay, glad to hear it. Send it along whenever you're ready.

I'm so torn on the SVU stuff. On the one hand, it's a treat to see Meloni get to act, but on the other... *shudder* Wait and see.

[identity profile] gabrita.livejournal.com 2006-06-06 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm so glad you discovered Oz cause I've been enjoying your reactions! Not sure if you seen all of it yet? I can't believe there's an Oz/Desperate Housewives crossover fic but then I can. Bless the lovely lack of limits that is fandom!

[identity profile] luci-2.livejournal.com 2006-06-07 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
The OZ / DH fic is 'Party Favors', at Rhymephile's LJ.

[identity profile] gabrita.livejournal.com 2006-06-08 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Cool, thanks!

This fandom is small, but addictive as hell, and I love it. :D

Yay!

[identity profile] assassinofjoy.livejournal.com 2006-06-07 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
Heh. Keller's TOTALLY a Slytherin ... and Toby like a Gryffindor/Ravenclaw hybrid with Slytherin overtones. MAN -- I heart this fandom so hard it's patheti-sad =|

You got Rescue Me on DVD? DOOOOD! Me = green with teh envy.

Tommy Gavin and Elliot Stabler need to have a brooding-guilt-ridden-Catholic-boys-who-love-their-kids face-off

HEE! Oh, to read that fic ... mmmmm ...

[identity profile] foxxcub.livejournal.com 2006-06-07 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
I would venture to say Keller is Slytherin with Gryffindor tendencies, although saying he's Slytherin is almost, IMO, too obvious.

I heart this fandom so hard it's patheti-sad

ME TOO OMG.

Trying again because I'm a spaz.

Well, whenever you get around to reading my fic, no worries. Although as [livejournal.com profile] rileyc suspected, it's a bit on the darker side. You need to have seen at least through Season 4 of Oz to get the Keller stuff.

But as for Lee's Peter McMillan character, you totally don't need to see Desperate Housewives. Seriously. They barely gave him a character on the show! I pretty much made up his whole backstory! Trust me. You could always go to Diane's amazing Annotated Lee Site and read detailed recaps (and even watch video!) of Lee's short appearance on DH.

http://www.fanfromfla.net/lee/desperatehousewives.shtml

Reading that will give you more details, but basically, Peter is a former sex addict and an alcoholic. That's about all they could dredge up for him, the bastards. He didn't even talk about any bad memories or anything. I took that and rolled with it...I just wrote a story about his past.

[identity profile] foxxcub.livejournal.com 2006-06-07 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
I actually watched that last DH clip with him right after that ep aired, LOL. So I know the backstory, such as is, I'm just behind on my reading!

[identity profile] gobsmackit.livejournal.com 2006-06-07 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
I object on the grounds that your flist misunderstands the Slytherin element!

[identity profile] gobsmackit.livejournal.com 2006-06-07 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
I just think it's important to remember that in Oz they're FORCED to maneuver to protect themselves. Just because the great majority of them are able to be conniving doesn't automatically make them Slytherins; I think you have to look at it as how their house qualities respond within that environment. Keller is emotional and all about those he loves (or those who loves/need him) no matter what, which is Gryffindor to a T. Toby is more restrained, usually thinks things out, analyzes, and evaluates - and reads a lot! :P - very much a Ravenclaw. The overtly Slytherin behavior is a reaction to their environment, and while how they respond does show who elements of who they are, I think it's important to interpret their actions keeping the other house traits in mind, and analyze THAT stuff, rather than lumping it all into Slytherin.

ENOUGH DISCUSSION?

[identity profile] gobsmackit.livejournal.com 2006-06-07 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
*love

Now, O'Reily? Totally a Slytherin.

[identity profile] foxxcub.livejournal.com 2006-06-07 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
I LOVE YOUR BRAIN KTHX. ♥

Just yes. Yesyesyesyes. It's like my brain knew this, it just needed some poking.

And yes. O'Reily would rule Slytherin.

Even though I could barely string two sentences together?

Hey, so, go here and see how your default icon is looking over to the left at Keller, and the orange!Gryffindor!Keller is pretending he doesn't notice!

XD ♥!

Actually, he's totally giving him the evil eye.

[identity profile] gabrita.livejournal.com 2006-06-08 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Great discussion. You make an excellent point about Keller being all about those he loves making him a Griffyindor.

But! Saying that some of us "misunderstand" doesn't make sense. This kind of thing is totally open to interpretation, is not set in black and white. J.K. Rowling didn't write these characters and she didn't create the OZ world. And so we discuss the possibilities and tell what we think. Some of the characters are more obviously one house while others are not, like Hermione seemed destined for Ravenclaw but the sorting hat put her in Gryffindor. Last year there was a discussion on LOST and who would be in which house. There was a lot of debate about Jack being Gryffindor or Hufflepuff (I strongly argued Gryffindor!) while it was pretty unanimous that Sayid is Ravenclaw. Back to my point, I don't think anybody misunderstood anything :-D

[identity profile] gobsmackit.livejournal.com 2006-06-08 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Eep! Just so you know, with [livejournal.com profile] foxxcub I tend to be hyperbolic, so anything I said in a flaily tone should be taken with a grain of salt - of course people interpret the house traits differently, I was just being melodramatic in defending my POV (...I fancy myself a Gryffindor). Plus, I really have seen too little of Oz to actually think I could argue this beyond surface level. It's just...my impression!

Sorry if I seemed like sort of a pompous ass.
