Hey hey now--to be fair, FIRST she asked him where they stood and he had no answer for why he hadn't signed the papers (though I would think that was an answer in and of itself, but what do I know, I'm just the dirt beneath Baer's shoes), and then WEEKS later, asked his partner for a temperature taking, and at the time admitted that it was difficult to do but that she felt she had no other options.
In the "real world", i.e. the show, I'd rather he took up with a heinous HAG than the new female Jesus.
However, in fic world, I prefer whatever bed, wall, or other surface you have his ass land on! :-)
