Boys of Oz

Oz alums prove their weight.

Oz was an HBO drama about prison life so vividly depicted, so chillingly told, so violently real, so sexually charged, so brilliantly portrayed that many TV critics would rank it among the best series of all time.

:DDDDD

Lemme put my fangirl hat on for a sec. While it bugs me that they site the run of the show starting in '99 instead of '97 (duh, research!), and that Eamonn Walker's main cast role on Justice is referred to as "reoccuring", AND they misspell Vern's name (although the irony kills me, OMG), I love that someone took the time to lay this all out. If anything, it's just proof that Dick Wolf truly is a whore for Fontana's cast, LMAO.

Except they don't list AMPed for Lee, which...makes me fret. >.>

Seriously.
They've all been on L&O!

And damn, I'd totally forgotten about the way Keller died. I remember what he was saying right before he died, but I thought he threw himself down.

And I LOVED Kareem Said! I loved Schillinger! And after a while McManus even grew on me.
I should really see if Showcase is showing it.
I remember I'd always close my eyes at the nd of the opening credits. ;)

Also I love the hilarity of some of their situations when put right after another.

Especially the Biggest body blow stuff.

Biggest body blow: Let's see: stabbed in Season 3, shot in Season 4, beaten in Season 5. The worst: accidentally killed by his one true love, Tobias Beecher, in Season 6.

AHAHHA! /spam

NO KELLER TOTALLY THREW HIMSELF OVER.

Or did he???

NO, HE DID! HE WAS JUST BEING MEAN!

[identity profile] bana76.livejournal.com 2007-01-05 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Did he?
I thought he was fighting with Toby and Toby accidentally pushed him and then he said "NO TOBY NOOOOOOO" just to get in trouble. Cause he was a huge asshole. Sexy, sexy asshole.

I think. I watched that episode a long time ago!

[identity profile] makesomelove.livejournal.com 2007-01-05 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know. :( I thought maybe it was like, he sort of jumped over but then shouted NOO TOBY NOOOOOO just to be a dick. IDK I try not to think about that season.

[identity profile] bana76.livejournal.com 2007-01-05 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
lmao good thing! I mean, it was the end. :(
I actually only saw the finale. I only saw seasons 1-5.

I form attachments fast, which is a bad thing in Oz. And as everyone died, I got sadder and sadder and then sort of.. forgot about it. I still lust, though, which I believe is the most important thing. :)

[identity profile] foxxcub.livejournal.com 2007-01-06 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
In my mind, it was Keller thinking Toby pushed him, not saying it on purpose. My brain can't handle it any other way. ;_;

[identity profile] foxxcub.livejournal.com 2007-01-06 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a long-running debate in the fandom whether or not Keller intentionally set it up to look like Toby killed him. Some might say Toby pushed him, but I don't think he did. The whole thing was an accident, and that's my story. ;)

And awww, you closed your eyes? That's so damn cute!

[identity profile] bana76.livejournal.com 2007-01-06 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, see, I don't think he PLANNED to kill Keller, but they were pushing each other around and it was an accident. And Keller, the asshole that he is, in that milisecond (god knows how) thought to thoroughly blame Toby. ;_;
So pretty, but so so screwed up!

and lol just cause it was real. ;_; I want to see Tom Fontana's ass!

[identity profile] gobsmackit.livejournal.com 2007-01-05 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Awww, yay!

AND they misspell Vern's name (although the irony kills me, OMG)
LMAO, for real.

I wish Dean Winters was still on 30 Rock. Downgrade for Liz Lemon, maybe, but upgrade for network television. /Best Week Ever

[identity profile] foxxcub.livejournal.com 2007-01-06 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
ICON OMG. *dies*

I never got to see the 30 Rock eps, but I hear he was hilarious. I love mah Oz boys. XD

[identity profile] halfdutch.livejournal.com 2007-01-05 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay! I knew you'd like the article! Perhaps they're not talking about future series just yet? And TV writers always manage to get something wrong! And man, Oz just pwned The Sopranos for edge-of-your-seat TV and yet, years later, what's still getting all the glory, waaaay past its prime?

Dick Wolf truly is a whore for Fontana's cast, LMAO.

It's so true. It's partly that NY pool of actors but I think it's more than that. I also think that Marc Cherry must be a big Oz fan since he put Lee and Ernie on Desperate Housewives. I await more Oz alums! ;)

*has no appropriate icons*

LOL, I literally made this post, like, ten seconds after I clicked the link, even though I had zero time to do so at work. I kept looking over my shoulder as I simultaneously read the article and typed the post. ;D

[identity profile] makesomelove.livejournal.com 2007-01-05 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
OH, BOYS. I love them all so! You can just spin around in a circle with your eyes closed and land on something with someone from Oz in it. Like, both the old priest who was in Ryan's pod for a while AND Nappa were on One Life to Live of all things. LOVE!

[identity profile] foxxcub.livejournal.com 2007-01-06 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
THAT IS AWESOME. Did I mention I saw Busmalis in The Lady in the Water?

[identity profile] inthekeyofd.livejournal.com 2007-01-06 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
It's still my all time favorite show, that I compare all other shows too. Oz was very good to me, not only as a viewer but I got to meet some wonderful people through it. And that show went to places that other shows, on cable or not, never did before and most haven't since, they broke the mold, and a big part of that does go to HBO, they basically gave TF a blank check for creating what he wanted.

Dick totally snags his cast, TF told him that too..but they are very good friends so I guess it's okay. *smile*

[identity profile] foxxcub.livejournal.com 2007-01-06 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I know there's not as big of an actors' pool in NY (as opposed to LA), so seeing them in NY-based shows is a given, but still. It always tickles me to them doing what's basically a giant crossover, LOL.

[identity profile] viggofest.livejournal.com 2007-01-06 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the mistakes in this article are already legendary. Who knew Ryan and Cyril were twins? Certainly not their TWO mothers.
This was such a weird article to run. It's not promoting the release of the dvd, or someone's new show, or something new from Fontana. Just one of those filler articles they run for the day after Christmas.
A member of the yahoo OZ group has already written to the author of the article to thank him for his bringing attention to the show, and politely pointing out a few of his errors.
We fans are rabid, but polite! ;-)

[identity profile] foxxcub.livejournal.com 2007-01-06 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeeeeaaahhh...this writer so did not do their homework. But I'm glad the mistakes were pointed out, 'cause damn. Makes me wonder how much of the show they actually watched and didn't just read in the Oz entry at Wikipedia (which also kind of sucks).

[identity profile] sarkastic.livejournal.com 2007-01-06 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
OH BOYS I LOVE YOU. And Lauren Velez! I love you too. Awwwwww, Beecher is Keller's "one true love". Someone's a fanboy! But, seriously, there is not one show in existence that doesn't have at least one Oz alum. Usually more.

AND they misspell Vern's name (although the irony kills me, OMG)
Heeeeee! Oh, Vern. I still don't know what the proper pronunciation of his last name is. Does Beecher say it correctly?

[identity profile] foxxcub.livejournal.com 2007-01-06 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I think Beecher's pretty much the only main person who actually says Schillinger with a "g" instead of a "j" sound. I don't know if you know the whole story on the name, so just ignore me if you have: when the show started, J.K. Simmons pointed out to TF that Schillinger is a German name, hence the "g" sound. TF was like "um, okay", and said people could say however they wanted, which then turned into this big running gag through the show's run. ;)

[identity profile] xphile101.livejournal.com 2007-01-06 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, looks like Beecher has a really bad time in season six and goes a little crazy. (I've only seen... uh. Four episodes so far. *g*)

[identity profile] foxxcub.livejournal.com 2007-01-06 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Um, Beecher has a bad time in every season, LOL. Tom Fontana likes to torture him! The worst is season one, of course, but he still never gets it easy. ;)

Strange that they can spell Ryan's awkward last name correctly and not Vern's.

Aside from the relative crappiness of the article, the real blame in this piece are the factcheckers and the editors. Good LORD, if you are going to write an obvious vanity article about the show, thenat least take two minutes and look this shit up. GAH.

[identity profile] foxxcub.livejournal.com 2007-01-06 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Seriously, ten minutes spent at IMDB could've solved a lot of their problems!
