The return of the polar bears!
*huggles her show to her bosom*
A Tale of Two Cities (3.01)
I love and hate the fact that I am incapable of watching a Jack ep without crying at some point. It's pretty much a tradition now, I don't know why I haven't just started keeping Kleenex next to me. Look how far we've come with Jack; two whole seasons' worth of flashbacks and yet it still hurts to see him be so self-destructive, so obsessed with fixing, when it really shouldn't surprise us at all. We've all been waiting for the time when Jack really starts to crack and come apart, but tonight showed us that, well, cracking isn't actually anything new to Jack. It comes back to the revolving Jack!theme of letting go and knowing when to give up. And it's simply not in Jack's DNA to do so.
How interesting that Jack was completely and utterly open with Sarah about the woman he almost cheated on her with, while Sarah can't even give up a name. Surely she knows Jack well enough to know that he's not one to let sleeping dogs lie. I understand that this was all a way to give what ultimately was false foreshadowing, but still...she should've known better.
Now, as for Juliette...wow. I think I'm in love. No, seriously. I don't know what her game is or how she's manipulating Jack for Ben (BEN!!! WTF?!), but you can see it in her eyes; she knows him, and I think she'd know him without a hefty file full of Jack!stats in front of her. I also don't think it's a coincidence that she vaguely resembles Sarah, but that's probably me reading too much into things. I am utterly captivated by her, and it's about damn time this show gave me a woman I can actually care about and support. Nothing against Sun and the others, but...*flail* As of this moment, Juliette has major brownie points with me.
Not to say I wasn't oddly fascinated with Kate tonight. Evi may be proving more and more as time goes by that she's a total nutjob, but she's learning to be a real honest-to-god actor, I think. I was impressed with her performance when she was brought back to the cage. The way she schooled her emotions and her facial features after Sawyer asked if she was okay...she's learning from Foxy! Good Evi, less is more, especially when you know how to actually work with "less". Let's just hope she keeps this up for the rest of the season.
"It only took the bears two hours." LOLZ. Oh, Sawyer, you little monkey. I'm thinking it's now written into Josh's contract that he's to be shot in some fashion every few episodes. He really does get the crap beat out of him, poor thing.
I just loved the balance of tonight, and how completely different the tone was as opposed to "Man of Science". You can feel the shift from the OMGWTFHATCH mania of last season to the old school feel of season one, i.e. it's all the people. We got the OMGWTF moment out of the way immediately, and I'm so happy that Damon and Carlton put that bit mythology in the background to focus on what makes this show tick in the first place. "That was a long time ago"...whoa. But still, these are not savages. Ethan's psycho act was probably just that, and Goodwin probably wouldn't have killed Ana Lucia. And yet, just because we now know they live in houses and have book clubs and make muffins doesn't mean anything should be taken a face value.
Walt said "it's not real," so what is real?
I wanted this ep to be three hours long. I want it to be next week. I have dearly, dearly missed my show, and I'm SO HAPPY it's back.
Oh, and I guess Zeke's The Gay Guy. Pfft.

And when they broke every bone in Scott's body?
And where are all the people that got taken?
Cindyyy?
*is freaked*
Huh. Maybe they got sent home.
Other than that, yeah. Love Jack breaking. Love Sawyer getting shot with stuff. <3<3<3 OUR SHOW IS BACK.

Jack breakage is total fucked up woobie love.

God. I'm about to cry again just reading about it. It's, like, full stop with Jack. Either he's going to tilt at every windmill he sees, or he's just going to fall apart altogether. He has no concept of second gear.
As of this moment, Juliette has major brownie points with me.
I don't know what it is, exactly, but somehow this actress manages to radiate complete compassion and complete malice at the same time. The last character I saw who was able to do that so perfectly was Darla, so yeah, pretty much in love over here.
Oh, and I guess Zeke's The Gay Guy. Pfft.
Meh. Utter cop-out.

I want a refresher as to who the actress is who plays Juliette (Juliet?). She is just all kinds of awesome. You know your mad Sara Wayne Callies love? It feels something akin to that. :)

Looks like we're getting back to the other survivors soon too if the promo is to be trusted. I hope the smooth flow of the episode continues though when they start switching back and forth from the Others to the Survivors. That was a definite problem last season.
Was Sun shot in that promo and kicked off the boat into the water? Not cool, JJ. Not cool.
And I'm sorry, but I find it fitting that Zeke is gay. My gaydar must work through the wonders of TV or something...
no subject
That they did, and brilliantly. I already have a great feeling about this season. :D
no subject
As long as the Hatch Monkey isn't watching them, of course...

Juliette, I do like her, not so much trust her, I do think she likes Jack much more than Ben, I don't think she's really up for games..but then she goes and zaps Sawyer, so who knows, but what I do know, I already like her much more than Ana and more than Kate as well.
I still think the others are evil, Ben is their leader, hello, the next two weeks line..and while Juliet isn't a fan of his, they all listen to him, remember they did kidnap Walt and leave them to die in the ocean..they can't be that great.
All in all, loved it, and Zeke is so checking Sawyer out.

Thankfully, my set is complete now, and I can live in the land of Season 5 was really the final one. *smile*

Also. Juliette? So much love. If she's Jack's new 'love interest' I'm already sold guys. It seems likes she's going to be a major player at least. They hinted at all kinds of room for more info, so that should be exciting.
And Jack. My poor Jack. Ugh. I could seriously watch a whole show just about him. As that is not an option, I'll settle for loads of fic. Fic. that I'm obviously going to be searching for all night 'cause there's no way I can sleep after an episode like that.

I'm kind of to the point after two seasons where I'm shocked, but not totally surprised, if that makes any sense. My WTF capacity with this show pretty much knows no bounds.

Next week, if I don't get my nekkid!Desmond, I will be v. upset.

Jack absolutely breaks my heart. I love him so much. I love how his voice was so broken when he was asking Christian about why his number was in Sarah's phone and when he asked if she was happy. At first I was a little weirded out by him being hung-over stalker guy, but by the end, Sarah reminded my why I hate her so much. Good for her. My ire went forgotten there for a while, but she managed to bring it back with her two parting comments to Jack. I could kick her ass, but maybe that's just me being protective. And I'm so glad Jack kicked Christian's ass and wound up in jail because I never liked him either.
I'm right there with you on Juliette. I don't really trust her because of the ending, but she seems to genuinely care about Jack. And she and Ben (yeah, I can't get used to that either) don't really seem to like each other all that much. Her "you're welcome" at the end seemed more like, "I don't like you so I'm going to reply very snidely."
Poor Sawyer. I laughed out loud when Zeke said "It only took the bears two hours." Hee hee.
All and all I am very, very pleased with this episode and that fills me with joy. :D

Maybe I'm just too forgiving, but I don't hate Sarah. I think she made just as much a mistake marrying Jack as Jack did marrying her; she just chose to deal with the mistake in another way. Granted, it wasn't the best way possible, but...
no subject
I thought the same thing, that it must be part of their plan. For whatever the Others' ultimate goal is, they knew Jack would resist men like Henry/Ben and Gay!Zeke, but that someone like Juliette would prove irrestible (not in that way... maybe) after a while. And I agree with you about her. It's good to have such a captivating female character, who seems to genuinely have layers... not to mention someone who has the acting skills to show it.
make muffins
Correction, they burn muffins. Which is a symbol that they mean to burninate the castaways! Until another plane crashes onto the island and they can try a fresh batch. The Anti-Betty Crocker Muffin Project! *coughs*
*sniffs drink*

I just have to say that I read this comment last night and for some reason, it's totally eaten my brain. I just...yeah. Holy shit. *plots*

See, I STILL wanted that feeling, but I did appreciate the fact that we were submurged into 'thier' world immedietly. It gave the episode a completely different tone and I am really excited to get to know more about the Others lifestyle and exactly what they're playing at.
And now it kind of seems that our survivors are indeed the savages that might rip that world apart. Very cool shift in the dynamic.

What I loved about this was that the flashbacks felt, for the first time in a while, like they had a real and serious point, that they were there for a reason. Sometimes, the flashbacks feel like they're extraneous or almost too obvious, but these weren't, they felt right.
And thank GOD, I'm not the only one loving Juliet. Good grief. I want to read fucked up Jack/Juliet porn, nowplease.

I SECOND THIS.

I was not loving this Jackback. I'm so very, very tired of Sarah. I really didn't like them turning Jack into a stalker. (Although it's fine if he's stalking James, LOL.)
I preferred your OT3 fic, honestly, babe.
But Sawyer!!!!!! Sawyer is love. That man makes me so happy, it's unreal. YAAAY.

no subject
Yeah, I was shocked, but she kicked ass.
I'ved decided that Jack's obsessive nature trumps any sexuality. If your wounded, he'll do you, and who's more wounded than Sawyer?
no subject
Quite possibly they are one in the same.

LOVE.

I don't think Sarah was being dishonest in not giving Jack the name of the guy, I think she knew that if she told him, he would try to fix the situation, you know? Figure out what the other guy had that he didn't and get those things and get Sarah back, and she knew that wasn't happening.
I love Juliet too!!!
no subject
YES. There needs to be more hot gay men in primetime.
I think she knew that if she told him, he would try to fix the situation, you know?
But I also think she would know that Jack would hound her until she told. The guy doesn't take anything lightly when comes to people he loves, and she'd been with him long enough to know this. Or maybe she's just dense.
no subject
Nah,I thought the same...I just hope Juliet is less of a bitch, because I love her already.
And BEN!!!Creepy Mcreep rocks.
Oh,and I guess Zeke's The Gay Guy.Pfft.
He so is!He was totally checking out Sawyer in cage;P
AWESOME!!!:D

I admit to enjoying watching Sawyer locked up in his cage. "Fish biscuit!" That's my new nickname for him. He gives everyone else nicknames, now I bestow that one upon him.
Wow, Jack cries a lot, doesn't he? It's interesting that he already has Stockholm syndrome. It didn't take him long to get comfy talking to Juliette.
I wonder what it symbolizes when Jack is contained in a pod (when he hit the glass in the opening I was like, "He has his own pod!") that generally houses water, while Sawyer and Kate are out in cages in the jungle? is there a significance to his being overwhelmed by water? Hmmm.
Also, I told you the gay thing was going to be a total cop-out. That sucked! However, if 1 out of every 10 men on the planet are gay, we can still keep our hope alive. LOL.
no subject
when he hit the glass in the opening I was like, "He has his own pod!"
That's so awesome and so true. Jack in a pod! I love it. As to the symbolism, some people are discussing the parallels between the story of The Hydra (i.e. sacrifice) and Jack's situation. That may be reading too deeply into things, but you never know with this show.
no subject
YES! But I haven't read it yet. Maybe tonight if I have time. They better pick that fucker up, for reals, because I'm in serious Lee withdrawal.

I haven't read the other comments so forgive me if I repeat. When Walt said "it's not real," he probably meant the camp they were in. Zeke as the gay guy was a real fizzle, but, (I hesitate to even say this), how badly are they going to try to break Sawyer? Surely that's not where they're going with this....

*nods* He just doesn't know when to quit, does he? He's like that guy in the Greek underworld that has to keep rolling a heavy rock up a hill, only the difference here is that every time it falls down Jack goes back and picks it back up of his own volition. He's dedicated to being dedicated, which is just...not healthy. Period.
Jack and Sawyer and Kate were all excellant tonight...this was a good episode to show us that that the writers really do remember how to write their own damn characters. Thank god.
Somehow, knowing about the suburbia set-up thing (they had a gazebo, for chrissakes) only weirds me out about the others even more. Like, what is their deal, seriously?
Juliette, however, is Teh Awesome.
