I have held off ranting about the atrociousness of World Trade Center, because frankly, everyone has their own thoughts on it and Oliver Stone and what have you. But having a full trailer shown during Rescue Me...that's the final straw.
How on God's green earth can you show a goddamn trailer for what is obviously a manipulative, self-indulgent film using a marquee name to somehow show the seriousness and "courage" of that day in the middle of a show that's trying to portray the REAL fall-out of said courage? How can you sit there and convince me to go see Nick Cage looking earnest and steadfast and expect it to be genuine, when the reality is Tommy Gavin and his survivor's guilt? Do these ad execs honestly think that by showing the extended trailer during a show about firefighters living in the aftermath of post-911 NYC I'll feel empathetic towards the characters? That I'll WANT to relive that day by watching A-listers cry real fucking tears at the fake devastation?
The answers? You can't, you shouldn't, they must, and FUCK NO. Had JFK opened five years after Dallas, there would be riots.
There. I've said my peace.
As far as RM goes, OMGWTF JANET'S SUCH A BITCH. Such. A. Bitch. She is still blaming Tommy for Connor's death. UGH. I desperately want to poke her with something. And does Johnny still not know about her liaisons with Tommy? I missed the last two weeks and still need to catch up.
"Suck Buddy" = GARRITY FOR THE WIN :D
And I'll say this: Leary really is fabulous. Not that I didn't think this before, but that monologue in the bar...wow. He managed to convey the absurdity and the horrendous pain of his life all in one fell swoop. Genuis. He deserves that Emmy nod like whoa.

And not just for giving me the opportunity to use my JFK icon, obvs.

I gave this same rant (well, a variation of sorts) to my mom, and all she can say is, "But, oooo, Nick Cage, shiny!!" *headdesk*

I really get pissed off by those MTV commercials (they did the same thing with United 93) that promote the film as this public obligation, or at least necessary conversation, but it would be so much more valuable if any of the films (at least, that I know of/that are being nationally distributed) actually did deal with - as you said - survivor's guilt and other things that are more meaningful and less...bombastic.

I wish there was a movie about how people felt that day and days after, that survived or where in the surrounding neighborhoods..or the surrounding states..honestly, people were just going to work like any other day, that's it, work..now how about having to go back to work with that fear that that could happen to you, that all of a sudden the sound of a plane or a van parked gets you frightened. And absolutely, survivors guilty, should be addressed as well.

On RM--Janet is evil. Denis Leary rocks. Johnny boy is really slow on the up-take. And Denis must have the emmy. Really there is no possible explanation for him not getting it. None.

And from what very little I know of RM, yeah, that's some pretty dumb advertising on the exec's part.
*Uses most appropriate icon she can find*

I would attempt to be more articulate about the whole thing, but why when you said it so perfectly with just the right amount of outrage and sarcasm.

You must watch the previous two weeks. Last week and the week before were two of the best eps ever of the show. And go, Probie, for bitching at the captain last night and threatening to bring his union rep into play when the captain made the gay comment. Yay.
No, Johnny has yet to find out about her fucking Tommy. That should go over well, considering she's pregnant and all.
As for Janet, the thing that concerns me is that the more they make her into a raving bitch, the more people are going to think that what Tommy did to her was deserved. I don't quite understand why she's blaming him for Connor, other than it seems she blames him for every other thing that went wrong between them. They're both crazy, but I hope we don't feel the need to start cheering when Tommy constantly gets physical with her, which I hate.
Leary constantly surprises with his acting abilities, especially this season. I don't think he has a chance in hell (nor does Teh Sex) but I do think he completely deserves the recognition. I also think he's an amazing writer, the rape mess nonwithstanding.
Sorry for the ramble, but...TV! I heart TV.

I'm also pissed because they use "Fix You" by Coldplay in the commercials but that's different reasoning.
