I heart gay cowboys.
I have a new obsession, and it's called Brokeback Mountain.
I spent the afternoon reading Annie Proulx's short story after
halfdutch raved about the movie, and oh my god. I've never, NEVER, in all my life read something so raw and emotionally powerful. It leveled me, to the point where I still can't really discuss the finer points without going all wibbly again. The writing is gorgeous, simple yet so incredibly complex and stunning in its details, from the surroundings to their closed-off, heartbreaking relationship. I only wish I could write like this.
Heartbreaking really feels too light--more like stomp-on-your-heart-and-watch-it-die. I'm so in love with this story, with Jack and Ennis, with Jake and Heath for wanting to play them, with Ang Lee, EVERYTHING. I cannot wait to see this movie and bawl my eyes out all over again. I've already poured over posts at
wranglers and caught scenes from it, and GUH. Jesus fucking Christ, I want to marry this story.
*goes wibbly again*
