foxxcub: (TEAM ROMANCE!!)

(no subject)

HOKAY, HERE ARE TWO THINGS I'D LIKE TO TALK ABOUT:

1. In regard to the angst vs. romance debate over [livejournal.com profile] ae_match: guys, look. I am, in NO WAY, going to police this challenge in terms of OMG UR STORY HAS TOO MUCH ANGST, GTFO TEAM ROMANCE. If you have angst in your romance story, great! Are your characters conflicted about their emotions? AWESOME. Likewise, if your angst story involves Eames and Arthur snuggling in a hammock, THAT IS FINE, TOO. This is not srs bznz! It's FUN. So don't stress over whether or not you picked ~the wrong team~, because THERE ARE NO WRONG TEAMS! :D

Although Team Romance is going to OWN ALL. *cough*

2. In regard to the issue of Michael Fassbender being a domestic abuser in relation to fandom squee: everyone reacts differently to issues of violence, and I respect this. If you're upset by his likeness being posted in this journal, I apologize. However, fangirl squee over actors' interactions, on-screen and off, does not condone actions done in an actor's private life. I may continue to post ridic gifs and/or quotes about MF's epic bromance with James McAvoy, but this doesn't mean I approve of his life choices in any way. Okay? ♥

3. (YES THERE ARE 3, SHUSH) James Dean (age 24) and Sal Mineo (age 16) in a screen test for Rebel Without a Cause.

You're welcome.

re: 2. I have this confusing reaction to him, like I want to tap that and I enjoy his interviews and interactions with other actors but I feel uncomfortable about it at the same time? idk idk.

[identity profile] foxxcub.livejournal.com 2011-06-08 03:21 pm (UTC)(link)
My thoughts EXACTLY. I sort of equate him with Jude Law; my initial feelings are "*__*!!" and then morph into "... :| :|"

[identity profile] sometimesalways.livejournal.com 2011-06-08 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
like i said this is why i try to avoid at all costs interviews with actors/actresses. i don't really want to know about them as real people. I like them because of their talent. I know many people don't feel this way but -- it's easier if you try to just separate things. Since this has always been my belief, i won't be putting a disclaimer such as the one above in my journal but i do hope my posting pics of him doesn't bother you, dear. And apparently she had dropped the restraining order so that's... something? In the end, we don't know what goes on in the actual private lives of these people -- all we have is gossip and one-sided story. best to invest yourself in talent and pretty, that's my motto :)

[identity profile] verselle.livejournal.com 2011-06-08 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
it's fine, bb, don't worry :) and sadly, even though I might not actively seek out information about actors I tend to soak up information like a sponge anyway.

[identity profile] sometimesalways.livejournal.com 2011-06-08 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah, i hear ya. i would never have known this if not for you, lol!

but maybe this helps a little?

However, it has emerged that Sunawin “Leasi” Andrews, the actress who is seeking a restraining order against Fassbender alleging he broke her nose, previously obtained a barring order against another ex-boyfriend in the late 1990s.

In that case, Andrews, 34, claimed that Seth Warshavsky, an adult film producer, choked her during a limousine ride in Las Vegas and physically attacked her in 1998 in front of her then six-year-old child.

Andrews previously filed a restraining order against Warshavsky in 1998. In court papers, filed in King County, Washington, she alleged Warshavsky, the then head of Internet Entertainment Group (IEG), an online pornography company, stalked her and threatened to kill the father of her child.

The adult film producer, who was then based in Baltimore, claimed in an interview with a local paper that the action was “just a frivolous restraining order in an attempt to extort money”.

Andrews’s then attorney, Allen Ressler, denied those claims, stating Andrews only took out the injunction because she feared for her safety and accused Warshavsky of repeatedly violating the order. Last week, Ressler said he no longer represented Andrews.

Warshavsky told the Seattle Weekly News in 1999 that following the granting of a restraining order against him, he continued to be “intimate” with Andrews.

again, so much hearsay we'll probably never know for sure but the fact that she dropped the case perhaps bodes well?

[identity profile] impertinence.livejournal.com 2011-06-09 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, drive-by comment, know neither you nor the OP, but - just FYI, it's an actual statistical fact that repeated victimization is a really unfortunate problem when it comes to abuse. Women who are victimized once are more likely to be victimized again by a different person.

[identity profile] sometimesalways.livejournal.com 2011-06-09 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
Obviously, and this was not meant to diminish her claims. I've repeatedly said it will never be truly known what occurred and all of this is hearsay. That being said, not all people -- men or women -- are honest and altruistic. I make no claims on the fact of this entire story, I was just presenting what is available to be consumed on the web. Obviously, no offense or judgement is intended and I'm not even taking a stance one way or another in the specifics of this particular case.

[identity profile] impertinence.livejournal.com 2011-06-09 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah, completely. I'm just very strongly reminded of the Assange case, where the facts WERE vague and the stories DID contradict one another, but somehow all the arguments about it were pretty much taken from victim-blaming arguments wholesale. I don't think anyone should be like "FASSBENDER, STRING HIM UP! THROW HIM IN JAIL!" but I do think saying "we don't know anything" should be restricted to that, not "we don't know anything, also she's done this before and she rescinded the charges", because both "she's done this before" and "she rescinded the charges" are not at all arguments in favor of her lying.

+1 to this entire comment. This entire thread, actually. :)

Jim/Plato is the saddest unrequited love.

[identity profile] foxxcub.livejournal.com 2011-06-08 03:38 pm (UTC)(link)
JAMES/SAL IS EQUALLY SAD. :(

[livejournal.com profile] sometimesalways and I were flailing about this last night--she got this from a biography on the making of RWaC:

he [Sal] said his life changed when he met james and he was in awe of him in so many ways. and so like an hour into the first reading that's when james took Ray aside and said 'tell sal to look me the way natalie looks at me' so Ray knew that Mineo was attracted to james even if sal didn't know himself and he encouraged it all. so the mansion scene that was screen tested became something of a test to Ray with regard to Sal and his reactions. sal said later on 'i couldn't unerstand what was happening. somethin was happening to me. i had no idea or any understanding of affection between men. and for the first time i felt something strong.'

the screenwriter never once admitted there was anything gay in his script and bristled at the idea but the subtext prevailed. meanwhile james was hanging out with a guy named jack simmons who most believed was his lover.

James and Sal were the closest -- james talked to him the most.ah here we go: ray overheard james saying to sal 'you know how i am with nat, well why don't you pretend i'm her and she's me. pretend you want to touch my hair but you're shy.' and then he said 'i'm not shy like you. i love you. ill touch your hair'

oh my god lasskdjlaksjd I suddenly need to rewatch this movie immediately.

[identity profile] foxxcub.livejournal.com 2011-06-08 03:49 pm (UTC)(link)
HE DIDN'T REALIZE THERE WAS SEXUAL ATTRACTION BETWEEN THEM UNTIL HE WAS OLDER, AND THEN IT WAS TOO LATE. ;________;

[identity profile] tailoredshirt.livejournal.com 2011-06-08 03:51 pm (UTC)(link)
;____________________________;

Was just reading about how Sal Mineo died on wikipedia. There's nothing that's not sad about this movie or the cast.

[identity profile] eleanor-lavish.livejournal.com 2011-06-08 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I did the same thing yesterday and was all ;_______________; for an hour about it! POOR SAL! POOR JAMES! POOR NATALIE! Ugh, sad movie is sad.

[identity profile] reinventweather.livejournal.com 2011-06-08 04:21 pm (UTC)(link)
OH MY ACTUAL GOD I DID NOT KNOW ANY OF THAT.

[identity profile] ohfreckle.livejournal.com 2011-06-08 03:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I have no feelings about Michael Fassbender at all because I've never even seen a movie him, so you're safe from me. But I can only shake my head at people who would get upset about you posting in your own LJ about him.

[identity profile] foxxcub.livejournal.com 2011-06-08 03:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I just want it clear that I DO NOT approve of those types of shenanigans, and that it's okay to scroll by if people are upset by it. ♥

[identity profile] terribilita.livejournal.com 2011-06-09 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry for butting in but.

But I can only shake my head at people who would get upset about you posting in your own LJ about him.

Why? It's not like people chose the things that upset them. And they have a right to be upset at what they've seen in a public post on their friends list. [livejournal.com profile] foxxcub, of course, can chose to ask her flist not to "harsh her squee" (as it were) or clarify her position on it (as she did here).

[identity profile] crowgirl13.livejournal.com 2011-06-08 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Regarding #2... yeah. I'm really glad that I found that out before I got invested in that there bromance. I can't get excited over an abuser being cute. I'll be sticking to the non-RPS bits of the fandom, me thinks.

[identity profile] reinventweather.livejournal.com 2011-06-08 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I- did not know any of that about Fassy. That's vaguely uncomfortable, but I think I'll be able to seperate the public persona and the private one, if I di end up getting into the fandom (which I may not, because, hey, I haven't seen the movie! And since I'm spoiled for all of it (thanks Internet) I may not catch it until it's free).

[identity profile] burningchaos.livejournal.com 2011-06-08 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Things like #2 are why I prefer to know nothing about an actor/actress' life if I can help it at all. I hate it when rl harshes my squee.

[identity profile] insunshine.livejournal.com 2011-06-08 05:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't know there violent/abusive rumors going on in MF's private life. What's that about?

ALSO, OMG. JAMES DEAN/SAL MINEO FOR THE WIN. Haha, I posted a whole huge thing about them yesterday, with the screen test where that gif is from. SO MUST UST YOU CAN CUT IT WITH A NICE. Ugh.

[identity profile] jennacorinth.livejournal.com 2011-06-08 05:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Kind of off topic, but that 'Rebel' gif got me thinking. I wonder if James Dean would be open about his bisexuality if he was a young actor around today. He seemed very ahead of his time, so I think perhaps he would be. That makes me smile :)

[identity profile] littlestclouds.livejournal.com 2011-06-08 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
That gif. *__________*

[identity profile] eleanor-lavish.livejournal.com 2011-06-08 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
re 2: I hate to have my squee harshed, but I also hate to not know things? I am still trying to piece together my Fassbender feeeeelings (ditto on Jude Law, as mentioned above, and Christian Bale) because domestic violence is never okay. And it's like the conversations I've had with people about Roman Polanski (different side of a similar kind of coin) where I can say that this dudes ART is great, but he's also a RAPIST and they aren't mutually exclusive. So I feel fine saying MF is a GREAT ACTOR, and can totally get into Magneto in fic, but then when I want to write, say, RPF about him and McAvoy being gaymos from gaytown, it gets cloudy because then I'm talking about the dude and not the art. It's awful, because these are smart dudes who I like, but then I think "how much do I hate Chris Brown?" and the answer is A LOT, and then I wonder what the difference is, and then I look at gifs of MF laughing and have to go away and not think about it. Mostly I like his face a lot and wish I had better information.

And that gif is heartbreaking and wonderful. I want to write fic. IS THAT WRONG? PLS SAY NO.

[identity profile] foxxcub.livejournal.com 2011-06-08 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
This comment is everything in my brain on this subject afk;ds;gkdfg I...think the best thing to do is focus on Michael Fassbender, Fictional Character! Just like I do with Jude Law, Fictional Character!

I AM HONESTLY SURPRISED THERE IS NOT MORE FIC OUT THERE FOR JAMES/SAL. Maybe I know what to request for [livejournal.com profile] yuletide this year. >.>

[identity profile] terribilita.livejournal.com 2011-06-09 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
Those are my exact feelings on this. Which is to say, I'm still so unsure as to what the heck I actually feel about it.

(Another person to add to that list: Mel Gibson.)

[identity profile] zorana84.livejournal.com 2011-06-08 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I just wish I knew more about the case. He seems so lovely in interviews and as an actor that I dont wanna believe it, but ugh abuse is never something I can handwave. /o\ (sorry first time posting but long time lurker <3)

[identity profile] terribilita.livejournal.com 2011-06-09 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
On point two...yeah, I'm just conflicted to be honest. On the one hand, I always see actors (in the fannish setting) as completely separate characters then who they are IRL (and this has always been my stance on shipping real soldiers during war time in the Generation Kill fandom). On the other hand, I feel like I'm completely dismissing real life problems by doing that, you know? IDK IDK, it's tough.

And oh, that gif. :">

BUT DID YOU EVER SEE THE JAMES DEAN/PAUL NEWMAN SCREEN TEST FOR EAST OF EDEN? *__*
