My flist seems to be obsessing about weight and height these days, which has got me thinking. I'm just shy of 6'0"--in bare feet I think I'm 5'11" and 3/4 or something. My weight goes from 165 to 175, depending on how hard I'm working out. And I'm fine with that. Really. I can wear a size 10 if I really try, and even though I used to work with this drop-dead gorgeous girl who was 6'3" and wore a size 6 (yes, she modeled, too), I try not to obsess about it too much. I'm a tall girl. Yes, this is a fact and you'd be SHOCKED to know how often random strangers will look at me and go, "Gosh, you're tall!!" Wow, ya think? No one looks a short girls and says, "Gosh, you're short! Do you date midgets?" Meanwhile, I get the whole "you play basketball/volleyball, don't you" questions ALL the time. I never played sports in high school, or college, because I'm extremely uncoordinated. And because tall girls can be nerds bookworms, too.

Anywho. Just thought I'd ramble a little. I've been "ogre", "Jolly Green Giant", you name it. But you know, I never have to ask people to get me stuff off the top shelves at Wal-Mart. :D

I'm not incredibly tall, but I'm not short. My mom is and I make fun of her all the time. It's all in love, I swear. She's the shorty in the house. My brother, though, he shot up six inches practically overnight and now he's almost as tall as my dad. :/ My weight, I'm cool with, but then again, I'm 18. I eat like a pig and gain no weight, and I'm enjoying it while it lasts. Because I know it ain't going to.

Hey! How odd...we have the same stats! And *boy* every bit of what you said is absolutely *true*. I hate sports -being also of the uncoordinated, bookish tall girl tribe- and loathe basketball besides. But, without fail, "You must play basketball...". Since when did tall equal sporty?

Even more entertaining: my best friend all though high school was 4'll and petite. Our parents called us Mutt and Jeff.

The neighborhood kids called me "The Tower of London". This was, however, a compliment for my mad skillz at Capture the Flag.

I rather like the rarified air up here though. Particularly since my spousal unit is six foot, four inches tall. :D

My old roommate was 6'2" or 6'3". She always got the basketball thing too. And she was also severely uncoordinated.

I've always wished I could be taller (I'm 5'2" on a good day), if for no other reason that it would be easier for me to shop for clothes. As it stands now, my top is much smaller than my bottom, and I have to hem everything...or buy insanely high heels that I can't walk in.

But yeah, people are insensitive clods, for the most part. Engage brain, then open mouth!

You would laugh to see me trying to get stuff off the top shelf of the cabinet or change a lightbulb, LOL. You must suffer terribly on airplanes! If you ever *do* come here, we are SO going to the theater with the insane amount of legroom! ;)

Don't you just love it that people feel the need to just say anything to complete strangers..yet another reason they can grate on my nerves. Seriously, nothing like pointing out the obvious. Me, I'm 5'5, average, but I would love LOVE to be taller. Size, depending on the store, 6 or 8 sometimes even smaller depending on how it's made. I didn't play sports either, I like watching them, but playing, that's another matter. *smile*

See, though, I'm a total height fiend when it comes to guys, over 6ft but only to 6'4, any taller and I'd get lost. *smile*

when I was younger, I was the tallest girl in my grade and the boys used to call me "Jolly Green Giant" (and "Beaver", 'cause I have crooked front teeth). I'm 5'7" now, though, so I don't get the height thing as often. And people used to always ask if I played sports too, but that was mostly because my whole family's athletic--I'm only slightly good at bowling, so yeah.

I'm not even that tall, only like 5'7", 5'8", but I am taller than him, which likely is not an insignificant factor. And to be fair, I'm in good company, as Sandra Bullock, Julia Roberts and many other otherwise lovely ladies are all lumped into the Big Moose Gal category where he's concerned.

Hmmm... don't worry, s'all 'bout perception. Like, 6 foot here is... I won't say average height for a woman, but also not a WTF height either. Whereas if a guy is 6 foot tall, he's considered small. Haha. So. I dunno how is it there, but here, average woman = 5f7. And there you go. :D

I always preferred taller women. Have certain... graciousness about them, I guess. Or maybe it's 'cause I'm small, who knows. I can never reach top shelves. :( Meh.

At 5'8" I'm taller than everyone in my immediate family except my dad. My main problem is that I'm built so slender. 120-125 lbs. So finding jeans and skirts is a nightmare. I tend to stick with Wranglers because they are the only ones who sell a 32 inch inseam in a size 6. Shoes are worse cause I'm a size 10. But my ankles and heels are narrow so my sandals are always floppy. My younger sister's got it worse. WIDE toes and super narrow heels. Hobbit feet she calls them.

I'm 5'7...not short/not tall, just sort of in between. I would dearly love to have your height...but yeah, I can totally see how the random gosh you're tall comments could get on your nerves.

I'm a teeny tiny bit under 6'2" so I totally hear you on the "Gosh, you're tall" comments. My usual repsonse is fake surprise - "Am I? Wow! No one has ever pointed that out to me before!". Works every time. ;)

Do you get random people asking you to get things off high shelves in shops? I get that all the time. Annoys the hell out of me!

I'm 5'8" which is decent. Not short, not tall enough to get basketball questions. But heres the thing, every single member of my family is either 6 feet or over. Even distant cousins, even cousins under 16. So I have total height inadequacy issues. My family is also super slender, but I'm not. I got boobs and hips and I waver between a size 10 and 12 too.

Also, I feel you on the pants thing, my legs are just as long as my sister's and she's 6'1" (and size 4!)Oh short torso, its so fun to have you around.

Its fun to know these little details about people you'll never actually meet. Why is that?

Yeah...I'm 5'10 3/4, and weigh about the same as you do...in that range. I have an extremely short torso and short arms and legs. Which doesn't even make scientific sense, but that's me. My friends call me T rex because of my short arms :) People always ask me if I play basketball, (I play volleyball) and I in return ask them if they play miniature golf. :) I heard once that tall women are better in bed...but I was at a college party and I think the creepo was just trying to get in my pants...but I thought I'd pass it along :)

I feel you completely. I'm about 5'10 and 1/2. And low and behold, my feet are HUGE! Size 12 huge. I hate it when other people complain about their feet being too big when they wear a 7. The whole 'do you play basketball/volleyball' question gets old really quick.

That sounds like me. I'm 5'9" and I like to wear heels, so I can be about 6 foot at times. My best friend's only like a half inch taller than me and about the same weight (125...I'm slender...sometimes hard to find pants). Although I do have quite a few short friends, so it's always a funny contrast. One friend is 5'2", another is 5", but then I have one that is 4'9". O__o But she loves being that short. Everyone calls her Midget. And now I'm rambling on. I'm done.
