Okay, a little backstory: I work in a college admissions office. We have students who are in charge of giving tours and talking to perspective students. The following co-worker is in charge of said students and has been developing a "quiz" to help them get to know the staff.

Co-worker: ...and your question is 'Which staff member really loves alternative rock music?' [leans in and whispers] They'll never guess it's you, it's hilarious. I don't know what I think you should listen to, but alternative rock is not it.
Me: ...

Why yes, I DO listen to my bandom playlist at work, but I didn't actually think people paid attention.

I feel like she was commenting on your "cool" factor. I might have gotten into a fight.

I was listening to Fall Out Boy on my laptop at the shelter about a month ago and two of my clients woke up early. One just stood at the front desk, staring at me, and said: "You seriously listen to FALL OUT BOY?"

But I actually think HE was making fun of me. :)

Hey, there's no shame in listening to the greatest hits of bandom *g* ;) Just remember, you're not the weird one, they are for not getting how awesome your choice in music is :)

Is MCR not considered Alternative Rock?

This is why I hate all of these stupid little sub-divisions in music. I just keep most things under a "rock" heading and leave it at that.

[identity profile] walking-paradox.livejournal.com 2007-12-17 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL, I was listening to MCR one day on my iPod and one of my colleagues took one of the ear thingies and after a few notes turns toward me and goes 'YOU listen to rock music?!"
That's how I found out that everyone in my study group though I only listened to Paris Hilton and Britney O_o

But just like someone said already, they're the ones missing out on good music, not us ;D

damn i thought that label went out in the nineties. it's not as if it's the alternative anymore these days, it's what is rock Image

OMG DUDE. I almost forgot to tell you! I decided to test my mom and her knowledge of Cobra Starship so our last phone conversation consisted of the following:

Me: Cobra Starship is coming in concert!
Mom: Oh! I love them!
Me: Really?!
Mom: Yeah! We built this city...
Me: That's Jefferson Starship.
Mom: What'd you say?
Me: Cobra Starship.
Mom: Well that was their name before.
Me: They were Jefferson Airplane before.
Mom: So now they're Cobra Starship. Got it.
Me: ...

Hahaha. I get to listen to my iPod while I design at work, AT THE RECRUITMENT OFFICE WHERE WE ALSO GIVE TOURS AND PROVIDE PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS WITH BROCHURES AND SO ON.

Most of the time nobody bothers to look at what's being listened to on my iPod. They would make fun of me and my love for bands that 14 year old emo kids listen to. But whenever they wind up looking it's usually switching to something by Bloc Party anyway, which seems to be the agreed upon design music of the office. *hearts Bloc Party*

*stares at your icon*

I'm listening to some Christmas station on the internet, and they totally just played FOB's "Yule Shoot Your Eye Out". I maybe spazzed a little.

*DIES*

[identity profile] foxxcub.livejournal.com 2007-12-17 06:11 pm (UTC)(link)
DUDE, I KNOW. AND THIS CO-WORKER IS YOUNGER THAN ME, WTH.

[identity profile] foxxcub.livejournal.com 2007-12-17 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Um, I might've gotten in trouble a few months ago for listening to the unedited version of "Teenagers" at work. *hands*

[identity profile] foxxcub.livejournal.com 2007-12-17 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
On my iTunes, they're listed as rock. However, Mr. Foxx refers to them as "that emo goth punk band", so who even knows, LOL.

[identity profile] itchyloon.livejournal.com 2007-12-17 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel that your reaction is completely natural and appropriate. *nods*

[identity profile] foxxcub.livejournal.com 2007-12-17 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
YES! I agree completely. You should've seen the look on another co-worker's face the other day when I told her to listen to My Chem's version of "All I Want for Christmas", LMAO.

[identity profile] foxxcub.livejournal.com 2007-12-17 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahahaha, I SHOULD WEAR CLAN SHIT TO WORK AND REALLY FREAK EVERYONE OUT. \o/

[identity profile] foxxcub.livejournal.com 2007-12-17 06:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Umm, yeah, quite possibly. But this chick could seriously kick my ass, so. *beams*

[identity profile] foxxcub.livejournal.com 2007-12-17 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Like, seal flappy hands and everything.

A conversation that took place in my modern history class, early this year:

me: I need to finish my conclusion, but other than that, it's done.
teacher: Why isn't it finished yet?
me: Because you gave it to us last period yesterday and I went to a concert last night?
boy 1: Did you go to Fall Out Boy?
me: Possibly.
boy 2: I have lost all respect for you that I ever had. Ever.

I sort of miss that class. There were only six of us.

[identity profile] itchyloon.livejournal.com 2007-12-17 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
That's my reaction to there being chocolate in the office. Or pretty much anything. Like I said, completely appropriate.

[identity profile] foxxcub.livejournal.com 2007-12-17 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
*laughs forever*

Hilarious. What would be even better is if that professor had secretly been at the same concert with you. :D

[identity profile] foxxcub.livejournal.com 2007-12-17 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
DID I MENTION I GOT $15 IN STBUX GIFT CARDS FROM MY SECRET SANTA??

[identity profile] trackscovered.livejournal.com 2007-12-17 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh man, that would have been hilarious. He was this gruff, dorky man in his mid-40s. Plus, he also made fun of me for going, whoops.

[identity profile] itchyloon.livejournal.com 2007-12-17 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG YES!!!! :D:D:D:D

AND I FORGOT TO TELL YOU THAT I GOT A CHRISTMAS TREE ORNAMENT OF THE RED CUP FROM STARBUCKS AND A GIFT CERTIFICATE FROM A FRIEND WHO CLEARLY, CLEARLY LOVES ME.

[identity profile] foxxcub.livejournal.com 2007-12-17 06:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I AM SO INSANELY JEALOUS OF YOUR ORNAMENT, OMG. *covets*

They really aaaaare. [livejournal.com profile] shleemeri told me I should have it. I HAVE SUCH KIND FRIENDS. <3333
